U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has updated its policy guidance regarding weekend and federal holiday deadlines, effective October 23, 2026. Under the new rules, next business day extensions will no longer apply to age dependent eligibility cutoffs such as filing before an applicant turns 21 for Special Immigrant Juvenile classification nor will they apply to online submissions, which must be completed by the exact calendar due date regardless of weekends or holidays. Standard day based response windows, such as 30 day appeal periods, will continue to extend to the following business day when expiring on a non working day.
